What is the name of the village where Harry Potter was born in J.K. Rowling’s books?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter was born in Godric’s Hollow in J.K. Rowling’s books. The village is a magical community in England and is closely associated with several important wizarding families.

Harry’s parents, James and Lily Potter, lived there with their infant son before Voldemort attacked them on 31 October 1981. That attack killed Harry’s parents and left Harry with his distinctive lightning-shaped scar.

Godric’s Hollow is also the birthplace of Albus Dumbledore and the former home of his family. The village contains a memorial to the Potters and the graveyard where Harry later visits his parents’ graves.

Readers often confuse Godric’s Hollow with Little Whinging, where Harry grows up with the Dursleys, or Hogsmeade, the village near Hogwarts. Those locations are important, but neither is Harry’s birthplace.
