What is the name of the trophy awarded to the PDC World Darts Championship winner?

The story behind the answer

The winner of the PDC World Darts Championship receives the Sid Waddell Trophy.

The trophy was named in honour of Sid Waddell, the celebrated darts commentator and writer who helped bring the sport to a wider television audience. Waddell died in 2012, and the championship trophy was renamed in his memory from the 2013 event onward.

Waddell’s distinctive commentary, energetic vocabulary and deep knowledge of the game made him one of darts’ best-known voices. His influence extended beyond match calls: he helped frame professional darts as a major televised sport.

The Sid Waddell Trophy belongs to the PDC championship. It should not be confused with the trophies used for the former BDO/Lakeside world championship or with other PDC major-event trophies.
