Burj Khalifa
What is the name of the tallest building in the world as of 2024? It is the Burj Khalifa.
The Burj Khalifa rises 828 metres above Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and has 163 occupied floors. It officially opened in January 2010, after being inaugurated as the world’s tallest building in 2009. The tower was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with Adrian Smith serving as chief architect.
Its stepped, tapering form was inspired partly by the Hymenocallis flower, while its three-lobed plan helps the structure resist strong desert winds. The tower contains residences, offices, a hotel, observation decks, and the restaurant At.mosphere.
People sometimes confuse the building’s architectural height with its antenna height: the spire reaches about 828 metres, while the highest architectural feature is generally reported at 828 metres and the tip at about 829.8 metres. Merdeka 118, Shanghai Tower, and One World Trade Center are all shorter.
