What is the name of the Sumerian flood survivor who appears in the Eridu Genesis?

The story behind the answer

Ziusudra is the Sumerian flood survivor who appears in the Eridu Genesis.

The Eridu Genesis is a Sumerian composition known from a damaged tablet found at Nippur. It tells of a great flood and identifies Ziusudra, king of Shuruppak, as the human who survives after receiving a divine warning and building a large boat.

Ziusudra's story is one of the earliest known written flood traditions. Later Mesopotamian accounts develop related versions, including the Atrahasis Epic and the flood episode in the Epic of Gilgamesh. Genesis presents Noah in a separate Hebrew biblical tradition, although scholars commonly compare the narratives because of their shared flood motifs.

The names are easy to mix up because the traditions overlap in broad plot elements. Atrahasis is the hero of the Akkadian Atrahasis Epic, and Utnapishtim is the hero of the Gilgamesh flood episode. Ziusudra is the distinctive name associated with the Sumerian account.
