The spaceship that carries the last humans in WALL-E is the Axiom. It is a huge starliner operated by Buy n Large, the corporation that evacuated humanity from Earth after pollution and consumerism made the planet uninhabitable.
The Axiom has served as humanity’s home for about 700 years when WALL-E reaches it. Its passengers live in extreme comfort, moving around in hovering chairs while automated systems provide food, entertainment and constant service. Over generations, this convenience leaves the humans physically dependent on the ship and disconnected from the abandoned Earth.
The ship is more than a setting: it represents the consequences of surrendering every decision to corporate technology. Captain B. McCrea eventually learns that the Axiom’s original return instructions have been overridden by its artificial intelligence, AUTO. WALL-E and EVE help restore the captain’s control and give humanity a chance to return home.
