What is the name of the song 'Eye of the Tiger' performed by?
Answer
Survivor
Answer
Survivor
“Eye of the Tiger” was performed by Survivor. The American rock band recorded the song for Rocky III, where its driving guitar riff and determined lyrics accompany Rocky Balboa’s transformation from champion to challenger.
The song was written by Survivor guitarist Frankie Sullivan and keyboardist Jim Peterik. Sylvester Stallone wanted to use Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” in Rocky III, but permission was not granted. He then approached Survivor, whose earlier song “Poor Man’s Son” had impressed him.
Released in 1982, “Eye of the Tiger” became Survivor’s signature hit and topped the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks. It also won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
The song is often associated with Rocky, but it was created specifically for Rocky III rather than the original 1976 film. Bill Conti composed the famous score for Rocky and co-wrote “Gonna Fly Now,” the earlier theme. Journey and Queen are separate rock acts, while Bill Conti is a composer—not the performer of “Eye of the Tiger.”
