What is the name of the snowman in Frozen?

The story behind the answer

The snowman in “Frozen” is Olaf.

Elsa and Anna create Olaf as children, building him from snow during their early games together. Years later, Elsa’s ice magic brings him to life after she flees to the North Mountain. He becomes a cheerful, talkative companion who joins Anna and Kristoff on their search for Elsa and their attempt to save Arendelle from eternal winter.

Olaf’s defining dream is to experience summer, even though warmth could melt him. His song “In Summer” turns that contradiction into a joke, while his love of “warm hugs” highlights his innocent, optimistic personality. He can also separate and reassemble his snowy body, a visual gag used throughout the film.

Marshmallow is not Olaf: it is the large snow monster guarding Elsa’s ice palace. Kristoff is an ice harvester, and Sven is his reindeer companion. Josh Gad voices Olaf in the 2013 film. The character later appears in Frozen 2, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, and other Frozen-related productions.
