What is the name of the mountain where Noah’s Ark rests in the Quran?
Answer
Mount Judi
Answer
Mount Judi
In the Quran, Noah’s Ark comes to rest on Mount Judi. Surah Hud 11:44 says that the Ark settled upon al-Judi after the floodwaters subsided.
This differs from Genesis, which refers to the “mountains of Ararat.” Mount Judi, also written Jودي in Arabic transliteration as al-Judi or Judi, is traditionally associated with a mountain in southeastern Turkey near the borders of Iraq and Syria.
The two locations are often blended together in popular retellings because both traditions describe Noah’s Ark ending its journey in a mountainous region. They are distinct textual references, however: the Quran names Judi, while Genesis uses Ararat as a regional designation.
The Quranic passage also describes a command for the earth to absorb its water and the sky to stop raining. As with proposed Ararat locations, claims about a surviving physical Ark on Mount Judi have not been scientifically verified.
