What is the name of the mountain range where Noah's Ark comes to rest in Genesis?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah's Ark comes to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 says that the Ark rested on the mountains of Ararat as the Flood waters declined. The wording refers to a mountainous region rather than naming one specific peak. This distinction matters because the later identification with Mount Ararat is more specific than the wording of Genesis itself.

Ararat is associated with the ancient kingdom and region of Urartu, located around parts of modern eastern Turkey, Armenia, and nearby areas. Over centuries, traditions and expeditions have connected the biblical Ark with Mount Ararat, the highest mountain in Turkey.

The Genesis phrase is therefore best answered as “the mountains of Ararat.” It does not explicitly say “Mount Ararat,” nor does it identify a precise archaeological location. Claims of finding Ark remains have repeatedly attracted attention, but no discovery has been generally accepted as verified evidence of the biblical vessel.
