The main character in Pixar’s Brave is Merida, Princess of DunBroch.
Merida is a Scottish princess who rejects an arranged marriage and insists on choosing her own path. Her defiance creates conflict with her mother, Queen Elinor, whose transformation into a bear forces the two to repair their relationship.
The other options are members of Merida’s family: Fergus is her father, Elinor is her mother, and Harris is one of her younger triplet brothers. Merida is voiced by Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald and was created by writer-director Brenda Chapman.
Brave, released in 2012, was Pixar’s first film with a female protagonist. Merida later became the eleventh Disney Princess and remains the only Disney Princess character originally created by Pixar.
