What is the name of the food critic in Ratatouille?

The story behind the answer

The food critic in Ratatouille is named Anton Ego.

Ego is Paris’s famously severe restaurant critic, whose reviews can make or break a chef’s reputation. He previously wrote a devastating review of Gusteau’s restaurant, shortly before chef Auguste Gusteau died. When the restaurant begins attracting attention again, Ego returns to judge its new cooking.

During his meal, Remy prepares a refined version of ratatouille called confit byaldi. The dish unexpectedly evokes Ego’s childhood memories of his mother’s cooking, changing his opinion of the meal and of culinary creativity. He asks to meet the chef and is astonished to discover that a rat is responsible.

Colette is a chef, Skinner is Gusteau’s former sous-chef and manager, and Gusteau is the late chef whose motto inspires Remy. Ego’s vulture-like design reflects his intimidating reputation, but his final review shows that he can still recognize genuine artistry.
