The flood hero who builds the Ark in Genesis is Noah. Genesis presents him as a righteous man who receives divine instructions to construct the vessel before the Flood.
Noah is the central human figure in Genesis chapters 6 through 9. He builds the Ark, enters it with his family, preserves animal life, leaves after the waters recede, and receives the covenant associated with the rainbow.
The name is sometimes confused with other major biblical figures who also receive important commands or lead their families through danger. Abraham is associated with the patriarchal narratives, Moses with the Exodus, and Joseph with the story of Egypt and his brothers. None of them builds the Ark in Genesis.
Genesis does not give Noah’s wife a personal name, although later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions offer different names or descriptions. The biblical account consistently identifies Noah as the builder and principal human survivor of the Flood.
