What is the name of the fictional ocean liner in James Cameron’s Titanic?

The story behind the answer

The fictionalized ocean liner in James Cameron’s Titanic is the RMS Titanic.

The film dramatizes the real maiden voyage of the British passenger liner RMS Titanic, which sailed from Southampton to New York in April 1912. Cameron combines historical events and real passengers with fictional characters, including Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater. The ship itself is therefore not fictional, although the film’s central love story is.

The Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic on the night of 14 April 1912 and sank during the early hours of 15 April. More than 1,500 people died. Cameron recreated the ship’s interiors and exterior in detail, using research, large-scale sets, computer effects, and underwater imagery.

A common mix-up is naming RMS Carpathia, the rescue ship that reached survivors, rather than the liner depicted in the film.
