Answer
Elephant Graveyard
What is the name of the elephant graveyard where the hyenas live? It is called the Elephant Graveyard in The Lion King.
The Elephant Graveyard is a forbidden, desolate area outside the Pride Lands. Simba and Nala visit it after Simba boasts about being brave, despite Mufasa’s warning to stay away. Their adventure quickly becomes dangerous when Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed—the hyena trio—ambush the cubs. Mufasa arrives in time to rescue them.
The location is commonly mistaken for Pride Rock, the royal landmark where the lions hold ceremonies, or the Outlands, the broader region associated with exile and Scar’s rule. In the 1994 film, the graveyard is depicted with enormous bones and dark, rocky terrain, making it visually distinct from the lush Pride Lands.
The scene also establishes the hyenas as Scar’s allies. Although Scar later permits them into the Pride Lands after seizing power, their presence contributes to the kingdom’s ecological collapse and food shortage. The graveyard therefore functions both as a frightening setting for the cubs and as an early sign of the conflict between Simba’s curiosity and Mufasa’s responsibility.
