What is the name of the elderly villain in Up?
Answer
Charles Muntz
Answer
Charles Muntz
The elderly villain in Up is Charles Muntz.
Charles Muntz is the elderly explorer and antagonist of Pixar’s 2009 film Up. As a young man, he was Carl Fredricksen’s childhood hero, famous for exploring South America and presenting a huge bird skeleton as evidence of a remarkable discovery. When scientists dismissed the skeleton as a fake, Muntz returned to South America determined to capture a living specimen and restore his reputation.
Decades later, Carl and Russell encounter Muntz near Paradise Falls. Muntz has become consumed by his mission and treats the rare bird, later called Kevin, as something to possess rather than protect. His obsession turns him into the film’s villain and provides a dark contrast to Carl, who must also learn to let go of the past.
Dug is Muntz’s talking dog, Russell is the young Wilderness Explorer, and Carl Fredricksen is the protagonist. Christopher Plummer provided Muntz’s voice. The character was partly inspired by larger-than-life figures such as Howard Hughes and Errol Flynn.
