The dinosaur protagonist in The Good Dinosaur is Arlo. He is a young Apatosaurus living with his family on a farm in an alternate history where the asteroid missed Earth and dinosaurs survived.
Arlo begins the film as timid and unsure of himself, struggling to complete the family tradition of leaving a mud footprint on the grain silo. After a flash flood separates him from home and kills his father, Arlo must travel through a dangerous wilderness to find his way back.
During the journey, Arlo befriends Spot, a young human caveboy. Their relationship is central to the film: although Arlo is the dinosaur, Spot often behaves like the more capable survivor. Arlo's parents are Poppa Henry and Momma Ida, while Butch is a separate character, a Tyrannosaurus rancher. The film was released by Pixar in 2015 and directed by Peter Sohn.
