The cowboy character from Toy Story is Woody.
Woody is a pull-string cowboy doll and the central toy protagonist of Pixar’s Toy Story franchise. In the films, he is Andy Davis’s favorite toy and usually acts as the leader of Andy’s toy collection. His full name is Sheriff Woody Pride.
Woody’s western design reflects classic cowboy toys and 1950s children’s television. Toy Story 2 reveals that he was the star of the fictional series Woody’s Roundup, alongside Jessie, Bullseye, and Stinky Pete. That backstory explains why Woody is associated so strongly with the cowboy archetype.
A common mix-up is Jessie, who is also a western-themed Toy Story character, but she is a cowgirl rag doll introduced in Toy Story 2. Buzz Lightyear is Woody’s close friend and former rival, while Rex is the group’s anxious green Tyrannosaurus toy. Woody was voiced primarily by Tom Hanks in the films.
