The clownfish father in Finding Nemo is Marlin.
Marlin is an ocellaris clownfish and the father of Nemo. After a barracuda attack kills his mate, Coral, and almost all of their eggs, Marlin raises the surviving egg and names the child Nemo. The trauma leaves him intensely protective, setting the film’s central conflict in motion.
When Nemo is captured by divers near the Great Barrier Reef, Marlin crosses the ocean to find him. Along the way, he meets Dory, a regal blue tang with short-term memory loss. Their journey takes them through dangers including sharks, jellyfish, a blue whale, and Sydney Harbour, while Marlin gradually learns to trust Nemo’s abilities.
The film intentionally gives Marlin an orange-clownfish appearance, resembling the ocellaris clownfish commonly kept in aquariums. He is sometimes confused with Crush, who is a sea turtle, or with Nemo himself, who is Marlin’s son. Finding Nemo was released by Pixar in 2003 and later received the sequel Finding Dory in 2016.
