What is the name of the bass player for Black Sabbath?
Answer
Geezer Butler
Answer
Geezer Butler
The name of the bass player for Black Sabbath is Geezer Butler. Born Terence Michael Joseph Butler in Birmingham in 1949, he became the bassist and principal lyricist of one of heavy metal’s pioneering bands.
Butler originally played rhythm guitar before Black Sabbath formed. Tony Iommi did not want another guitarist in the group, so Butler switched to bass—an instrument he had barely played before the band’s first performance. His melodic, forceful style became a major part of Black Sabbath’s dark sound.
Butler also wrote many of the band’s lyrics, drawing on religion, fantasy, science fiction, horror and fears about war or destruction. He helped suggest the name Black Sabbath after the group had briefly been called Earth. A common mix-up is confusing him with Tony Iommi, the band’s guitarist, Ozzy Osbourne, its best-known early vocalist, or Bill Ward, its drummer. Butler left and rejoined Black Sabbath several times but remained its defining bassist.
