Super Heavy is the first-stage booster designed to launch SpaceX’s Starship vehicle.
The complete Starship launch system consists of two stages: the Super Heavy booster and the Starship upper stage. Both are designed to be reusable, with the booster intended to return to the launch site or another designated recovery area after separation.
Super Heavy is powered by multiple Raptor engines and uses liquid methane and liquid oxygen as propellants. It is much larger than the Falcon 9 first stage and is intended to provide the thrust needed to send Starship toward orbit.
The name is sometimes confused with Falcon Heavy, an earlier SpaceX rocket made from three Falcon 9-derived cores. Falcon Heavy and Super Heavy are different vehicles, although both are associated with heavy-lift launches.
