What is the name of Rocket Lab’s launch complex on New Zealand’s Māhia Peninsula?
Answer
Launch Complex 1
Answer
Launch Complex 1
Rocket Lab’s launch complex on New Zealand’s Māhia Peninsula is called Launch Complex 1.
The privately operated site is the main launch base for Rocket Lab’s Electron rocket. Its location provides a clear path over the Pacific Ocean and allows launches into a range of useful orbital inclinations without flying over populated areas.
Launch Complex 1 initially operated with Pad A. Rocket Lab later added Pad B at the same complex to increase launch flexibility and frequency. The site is in the Hawke’s Bay region on New Zealand’s North Island.
Launch Complex 1 is distinct from Launch Complex 2, which Rocket Lab built at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport in Virginia for U.S.-based Electron launches. The Māhia facility is also commonly called Rocket Lab’s New Zealand launch site, but Launch Complex 1 is its formal name.
