Shem is the son of Noah identified in Genesis as the ancestor of Aram. Genesis 10:22 lists Aram among Shem’s descendants in the Table of Nations.
Noah’s three sons are Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Genesis presents their descendants as founders or ancestors of peoples and regions known to the biblical world. Shem’s genealogy receives particular attention later, eventually connecting through several generations to Abraham.
A common mix-up is to confuse Shem’s descendant Aram with Noah’s other sons. Aram is not another son of Noah; he is listed as a son of Shem. The name Shem is also associated with the term “Semitic,” although modern scholarly classifications are broader and should not be reduced to a simple biblical family label.
