What is the name of Merida's mother in Brave?

Merida’s mother in Brave is Queen Elinor, the queen of the Scottish kingdom and wife of King Fergus.

Elinor is a central force in Merida’s conflict with royal tradition. She expects her 16-year-old daughter to behave as a proper princess and eventually marry one of the sons of the allied clan leaders. Merida, an accomplished archer who fiercely values independence, resists those expectations and secretly seeks a magical solution to change her fate.

The spell transforms Elinor into a bear, creating the film’s emotional and physical crisis. Merida must repair the bond with her mother before the enchantment becomes permanent. Their relationship—not simply the marriage dispute—drives the story, and Elinor gradually comes to understand Merida’s need to choose her own path.

Common mix-ups arise because King Fergus is Merida’s father, while Mor’du is the cursed prince who became a monstrous bear. The Witch supplies the enchanted cake but is not Merida’s mother. Elinor’s voice was performed by Emma Thompson.
