What is the name of J.K. Rowling’s fictional school of witchcraft in Harry Potter?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s fictional school of witchcraft in Harry Potter is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Hogwarts is the main educational setting of the Harry Potter series. It is a boarding school in Scotland where young witches and wizards study subjects such as Transfiguration, Potions, Charms, and Defence Against the Dark Arts.

The school is divided into four houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Students are placed into houses by the Sorting Hat, and house identity shapes much of the series’ social and sporting competition.

Hogwarts is not the only magical school in Rowling’s world. Durmstrang Institute and Beauxbatons Academy appear in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, while Ilvermorny is described as a North American school in later Wizarding World material. Hogwarts, however, is the central school of the original novels.
