Answer
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Answer
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Disney’s first animated feature film, released in 1937, was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Produced by Walt Disney and released by RKO Radio Pictures, the film was based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale “Snow White.” It was a daring project because Disney’s studio was best known for short cartoons, and many industry observers doubted that audiences would watch a full-length animated film. Walt Disney nevertheless believed feature animation could support deeper characters, music, and storytelling.
The film premiered at Los Angeles’s Carthay Circle Theatre on December 21, 1937, before its wider American release in February 1938. Its success transformed Disney’s finances and established feature-length animation as a commercially important form of filmmaking. The film also helped launch Disney’s long-running tradition of animated fairy-tale features.
A frequent mix-up is naming Dumbo, Fantasia, or Pinocchio. Those films followed Snow White: Pinocchio and Fantasia were released in 1940, while Dumbo arrived in 1941. Snow White is also the first Disney Princess film and the first American animated feature-length film.
