What is the name of Beyoncé’s visual album released in 2020 that explores Black history and culture?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé’s 2020 visual album exploring Black history and culture is Black Is King.

Black Is King was written, directed, and executive produced by Beyoncé. It was released on Disney+ on July 31, 2020, and functions as a visual companion to The Lion King: The Gift, her 2019 companion album for the film The Lion King.

The project uses music videos, choreography, costumes, animation, and cinematic imagery to reinterpret themes connected with identity, family, ancestry, and African and diasporic culture. Several songs from The Lion King: The Gift appear in the film, including “Already,” “Brown Skin Girl,” and “My Power.”

Black Is King is distinct from Homecoming, which documents Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella performances. It is also not the same release as The Lion King: The Gift, the audio album that supplied much of its soundtrack.
