“Texas Hold ’Em” became Beyoncé’s first number-one single on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
The song was released in February 2024 as one of two initial tracks introducing Cowboy Carter. Its acoustic guitar, banjo, handclaps, and danceable rhythm place it in a country-pop setting, while Beyoncé’s vocal performance connects the recording to her wider R&B and pop background.
It also reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making Beyoncé the first Black woman to top the Hot Country Songs chart. The achievement drew attention to the historical visibility of Black artists in country music and to the genre’s long, interconnected musical history.
“16 Carriages” was released alongside it as another Cowboy Carter preview, but it was not the song that reached number one on the country chart.
