Beyoncé’s concert film documenting her 2018 Coachella performance is titled Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé.
Netflix released Homecoming on April 17, 2019. Beyoncé directed, wrote, and served as an executive producer on the film, which combines performance footage with behind-the-scenes material about the demanding preparation for her festival appearance.
The concert itself became famous for its large-scale celebration of historically Black colleges and universities. Marching bands, drumlines, dancers, a choir, and step-inspired choreography shaped the show’s sound and visual identity. The set also included a reunion with Destiny’s Child, featuring Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
Homecoming was accompanied by a live album officially titled Homecoming: The Live Album. It should not be confused with Black Is King, Beyoncé’s 2020 visual album connected to The Lion King: The Gift, or Life Is But a Dream, a 2013 documentary about her life and career. The word “Homecoming” refers to the HBCU-inspired concept as well as the film’s title.
