Renaissance is the Beyoncé album released in 2022 as the first act of a planned three-act project.
Renaissance was released on July 29, 2022, through Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. It was Beyoncé’s seventh studio album and her first solo studio album since Lemonade in 2016. The project draws strongly from house, disco, dance, and electronic music traditions.
The album’s lead single, “Break My Soul,” became a major international hit. Renaissance also includes “Cuff It,” “Alien Superstar,” and “Virgo’s Groove.” Beyoncé described the album as a celebration of freedom, joy, and dance-floor culture, while its credits connect it to a long history of Black and queer club music.
The album is known as Act I of a planned trilogy. Its later companion, Cowboy Carter, was released in 2024 as Act II. Renaissance should not be confused with the similarly named concert tour, which began in 2023.
