Beyoncé’s 2016 studio album about marriage, infidelity, and healing is titled Lemonade.
Lemonade was released on April 23, 2016, after the premiere of an accompanying one-hour film on HBO. The project combines songs, poetry, spoken narration, and visual chapters. Its themes move through suspicion, anger, apathy, accountability, hope, forgiveness, and redemption, while also addressing Black womanhood, family, ancestry, and cultural memory.
The album includes “Formation,” “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” “Freedom,” “Love Drought,” and “All Night.” Its narrative drew intense public discussion because listeners connected its relationship themes with Beyoncé’s marriage, although the work also operates as a broader artistic and historical statement.
Lemonade received widespread critical acclaim and won the Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album. It is distinct from The Gift, Beyoncé’s 2019 companion album for The Lion King, and from Renaissance, her 2022 studio album.
