Beyoncé’s 2016 fashion-and-performance film released with the album Lemonade is also titled Lemonade.
The film premiered on HBO on April 23, 2016, immediately before the album became available digitally. It combines music videos, poetry, spoken-word passages, dramatic imagery, and documentary-style scenes. Beyoncé collaborated with several directors, including Kahlil Joseph, Melina Matsoukas, and Jonas Åkerlund.
The visual album is divided into chapters with titles such as “Intuition,” “Denial,” “Anger,” “Apathy,” “Emptiness,” “Accountability,” “Reformation,” “Hope,” and “Redemption.” Its themes include relationships, betrayal, healing, Black womanhood, and family history.
Lemonade is sometimes confused with Homecoming, which documents Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella performances, or Black Is King, which accompanied music from The Lion King: The Gift. Lemonade is both the name of the 2016 studio album and the film presented alongside it.
