What is the name of Aladdin's monkey companion?

The story behind the answer

Aladdin's monkey companion is Abu.

Abu is Aladdin's kleptomaniac pet monkey in Disney's 1992 animated film Aladdin. He is a nonverbal character whose expressive gestures, chattering, and comic reactions are supplied through vocal effects by Frank Welker. Abu accompanies Aladdin through street life in Agrabah and frequently helps him survive by stealing food or useful objects.

The character was created by Disney artist Joe Grant, and animators studied monkeys at the San Francisco Zoo to understand Abu's movement. Abu was also inspired by the thief named Abu in the 1940 film The Thief of Bagdad, though Disney's version became a more playful and emotionally loyal sidekick.

Abu's criminal impulses create major trouble. His desire for treasure leads him to touch the forbidden object in the Cave of Wonders, triggering the cave's collapse. He also briefly becomes an elephant when the Genie grants Aladdin's wish to appear as a prince. The common mix-up is Rajah, Jasmine's tiger, or Iago, Jafar's parrot; neither is Aladdin's animal companion.
