What is the name of AC/DC's 1975 debut album?
Answer
High Voltage
Answer
High Voltage
AC/DC’s 1975 debut album is High Voltage. It was the band’s first studio album and was released in Australia and New Zealand on February 17, 1975.
The album was recorded in November 1974 at Albert Studios in Sydney, with production by Harry Vanda and George Young. George Young, an older brother of Angus and Malcolm, was also involved musically on several tracks. At this early stage, AC/DC’s lineup was still developing: Bon Scott had recently replaced original singer Dave Evans, while Rob Bailey and Peter Clack played bass and drums on much of the record, with additional session contributions from Tony Currenti.
High Voltage captures a less settled version of the band than later classics such as Let There Be Rock or Back in Black. Its songs range across hard rock, blues rock, and rock and roll, reflecting AC/DC’s developing identity. The album reached No. 14 on Australia’s Kent Music Report.
One frequent source of confusion is the similarly titled 1976 international album High Voltage. That release was not the same record: it combined tracks from the 1975 High Voltage and the Australian T.N.T. album. The 1975 Australian release is the actual debut.
