What is the largest hotel in the world by number of rooms?

The story behind the answer

The largest hotel in the world by number of rooms is First World Hotel in Malaysia.

Located at Resorts World Genting in Genting Highlands, Pahang, First World Hotel is a huge resort property containing 7,351 rooms. Its brightly colored façade and connection to shopping, dining, entertainment, and casino facilities make it part of a much larger destination rather than a conventional stand-alone city hotel.

The property first held the world record in 2006 with 6,118 rooms. It later lost the title after The Venetian resort complex in Las Vegas expanded, then regained it in 2015 when an annex added 1,233 rooms. The record therefore depends on room count and can change when major resorts open or expand.

A common mix-up is confusing the world’s largest hotel overall with the largest single hotel building. First World Hotel’s rooms are distributed across multiple towers, while rankings that count one building or an integrated resort may produce different results. Its record is specifically for the number of guest rooms.
