What is the ISO 4217 code for the Czech Republic’s koruna?

The story behind the answer

The ISO 4217 code for the Czech Republic’s koruna is CZK. ISO 4217 codes provide internationally standardised three-letter identifiers for currencies, helping banks, payment systems and financial databases distinguish them.

In CZK, the first two letters, CZ, identify the Czech Republic, while K refers to koruna, the Czech word for crown. The koruna became the Czech Republic’s currency in 1993 after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, although the two successor states briefly used a shared monetary system before separate notes appeared.

The Czech koruna is sometimes confused with the Slovak koruna, whose former ISO code was SKK. Slovakia later adopted the euro in 2009, while the Czech Republic continues to use the koruna.
