What is the IMF’s full name in the Mission: Impossible films?
Answer
Impossible Missions Force
The IMF’s full name in the Mission: Impossible films is the Impossible Missions Force.
The IMF is the covert organization that assigns Ethan Hunt and other agents their missions. Its members use disguises, surveillance, specialist equipment, and carefully coordinated field operations to handle threats that official agencies may not be able to address openly.
The acronym comes from the original Mission: Impossible television series, which premiered in 1966. The film series retains the name while expanding the organization’s structure and showing characters such as Ethan Hunt, Luther Stickell, Benji Dunn, and William Brandt.
The name is sometimes mistakenly expanded as “International Mission Force” or another intelligence-agency phrase. In the franchise, IMF specifically means Impossible Missions Force.
