What is the full title of Chapter I in A. A. Milne’s book Winnie-the-Pooh?

The story behind the answer

Chapter I of A. A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh is titled “In Which We Are Introduced to Winnie the Pooh and Some Bees and the Stories Begin.”

The title accurately describes the opening adventure. Pooh has run out of honey and attempts to reach a beehive by disguising himself as a small black cloud and floating upward with a balloon. Christopher Robin helps him, but Pooh discovers that the bees are not the right sort for his plan.

The chapter also establishes the book’s storytelling style: a narrator addresses Christopher Robin directly, while the fictional world grows from the child’s toys and imagination. The long “In Which” titles became a recognisable feature of Milne’s Pooh books.

The chapter was adapted from an earlier story, “The Wrong Sort of Bees,” published in the London Evening News on Christmas Eve 1925. That earlier appearance introduced the story’s basic premise before the book was published in 1926.
