What is the fourth track on Metallica's The Black Album?

“The Unforgiven” is the fourth track on Metallica's The Black Album.

The album sequence starts with “Enter Sandman,” followed by “Sad but True” and “Holier Than Thou.” “The Unforgiven” follows those three songs as track four, before “Wherever I May Roam.”

The song stands out for its dramatic arrangement and contrasting sections. It became one of the album's major singles and later developed into a recurring Metallica song title through “The Unforgiven II” on Reload and “The Unforgiven III” on Death Magnetic.

Track positions can differ on special releases that add demos, live performances, or alternate material. This answer refers to the standard 12-song studio sequence on the original 1991 album, not the order of songs on a bonus disc or playlist.
