The first name of the main protagonist of the Uncharted series is Nathan. His full name is Nathan Drake, though friends commonly call him “Nate.” He is a treasure hunter and adventurer who travels the world investigating lost cities, legendary artifacts, and historical mysteries.
Nathan was designed as a relatable action-adventure hero rather than an invincible superhero. Naughty Dog drew inspiration from pulp adventure stories and film characters such as Indiana Jones, but gave Drake an everyman appearance, quick wit, and a tendency to react nervously or sarcastically when situations become absurd. Nolan North provides his voice and motion capture in the video games.
A common mix-up is choosing Drake as the first name. Drake is Nathan’s surname, while Victor Sullivan—usually called Sully—is his mentor and longtime partner. Sam is Nathan’s older brother, who becomes central to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Nathan first appeared in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune in 2007 and remained the central playable character throughout the main console series.
