What is the currency of Switzerland and Liechtenstein?
Answer
Swiss franc
Answer
Swiss franc
The currency of Switzerland and Liechtenstein is the Swiss franc.
The Swiss franc is Switzerland’s national currency and is also used in the neighbouring principality of Liechtenstein. Its international currency code is CHF, derived from the Latin name for Switzerland, Confoederatio Helvetica. The franc is divided into 100 centimes in French, 100 Rappen in German and 100 centesimi in Italian.
The Swiss National Bank is responsible for monetary policy and issues Swiss banknotes. Coins are issued by Swissmint. Switzerland’s multilingual design tradition is reflected in the country’s use of German, French, Italian and Romansh across official contexts.
The Swiss franc is sometimes confused with the euro because Switzerland is surrounded by euro-using countries, but Switzerland is not a member of the European Union or eurozone. Liechtenstein has a customs and monetary relationship with Switzerland and has used the Swiss franc since 1924.
