What is the capital of Vietnam?
Answer
Hanoi
Answer
Hanoi
The capital of Vietnam is Hanoi.
Hanoi lies in northern Vietnam and has served as an important political centre for much of the country's history. In 1010, the Lý dynasty established its capital at the site and called it Thăng Long, meaning “Ascending Dragon.”
The city was later known by other names, including Đông Đô and Đông Quan, before the name Hanoi became established in the nineteenth century. During French colonial rule, Hanoi was the administrative capital of French Indochina.
After the August Revolution in 1945, Hanoi became the capital of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. It remained the capital of North Vietnam during the country's division and became the capital of reunified Vietnam in 1976. Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city, but it is not the national capital.
