What is the capital of Uganda?
Answer
Kampala
Answer
Kampala
The capital of Uganda is Kampala. It is also Uganda’s largest city and its principal political, commercial, cultural, and economic center, located in the country’s south-central region near the northern shore of Lake Victoria.
Kampala grew from the historic political heartland of the Buganda Kingdom. The name is commonly linked to the phrase meaning “hill of the impala,” reflecting the antelope that once inhabited the area. British colonial authorities established Fort Lugard on Old Kampala Hill in the 1890s, helping the settlement expand into a major administrative center.
Kampala became the capital of independent Uganda in 1962 and remains the seat of national government. The city is known for its many hills and valleys, and its urban area has expanded far beyond the original group of seven hills. Readers sometimes confuse Kampala with Nairobi or Kigali, the capitals of neighboring Kenya and Rwanda. Kampala is administratively divided into five political divisions: Central, Kawempe, Makindye, Nakawa, and Rubaga.
