What is the capital of Russia?
Answer
Moscow
Answer
Moscow
The capital of Russia is Moscow.
Moscow stands on the Moskva River in western Russia and serves as the country's political, economic, and cultural centre. It is also Russia's largest city and the seat of the federal government.
The city was first mentioned in written records in 1147. Its Kremlin became the centre of the expanding Grand Duchy of Moscow and later the Russian state. Moscow was the capital of Russia until Peter the Great moved the capital to Saint Petersburg in 1712.
Moscow regained its capital status after the Russian Revolution, when the Soviet government transferred the capital from Petrograd, later called Leningrad, in 1918. Saint Petersburg remains a major historic city, but it is not Russia's current capital.
