The birthplace of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, is Nankana Sahib.

Nankana Sahib is a city in Punjab, Pakistan, formerly known as Rai-Bhoi-Di Talwandi. Guru Nanak was born there in 1469 to Mehta Kalu and Mata Tripta. The town became one of the most important Sikh pilgrimage sites because of its direct association with the first Sikh Guru.

The principal shrine is Gurdwara Janam Asthan, traditionally identified as the place of Guru Nanak’s birth. Several other gurdwaras in and around Nankana Sahib commemorate events connected with his childhood and early life.

Nankana Sahib is sometimes confused with Kartarpur, where Guru Nanak spent his final years, or Sultanpur Lodhi, where he worked before beginning his travels. It is also distinct from Amritsar, which became a major Sikh religious centre later in Sikh history.
