What is the architectural height of Shanghai Tower in metres?
Answer
632 metres
Answer
632 metres
Shanghai Tower has an architectural height of 632 metres.
The twisting glass tower stands in Shanghai’s Lujiazui financial district and was designed by the American architectural firm Gensler. Construction began in 2009, and the building was completed in 2015. Its tapered, spiralling form is intended to reduce wind loads and create a series of sky gardens between the inner and outer façades.
Shanghai Tower is the tallest building in China and the second-tallest completed building in the world by architectural height. Its height is often mixed up with the figures for nearby Shanghai World Financial Center and Jin Mao Tower, which are substantially shorter. The tower contains offices, hotels, observation areas and other mixed-use spaces.
The building’s rounded triangular floor plates and double-skin façade are important parts of its environmental strategy. The outer skin creates a sheltered zone around the inner tower, helping reduce energy demands and wind pressure.
