What is James Bond’s code number in the official Bond film series?

The story behind the answer

James Bond’s code number in the official Bond film series is 007.

The number identifies Bond as an agent licensed to kill while also distinguishing him within the British Secret Intelligence Service. In the films, “00” indicates an agent with authorization to kill in the course of a mission, while the final digit identifies the individual agent. Bond is therefore known as “007” or “double-oh seven.”

The number appears throughout the series in dialogue, documents, equipment, and mission briefings. It is not simply a nickname: other agents can also have “00” numbers, and some films refer to other double-oh agents. The recurring designation became one of the most recognizable elements of the character, alongside his Aston Martin cars, signature introduction, and shaken-not-stirred martini.
