What is AC/DC's highest-charting single on the Billboard Hot 100?

The story behind the answer

AC/DC’s highest-charting single on the Billboard Hot 100 is “Moneytalks.” It reached No. 23 in the United States, making it the band’s best-performing single on that chart.

Released in 1990, “Moneytalks” was the second single from The Razors Edge, AC/DC’s twelfth studio album. Malcolm and Angus Young wrote the song, while Bruce Fairbairn produced it. Its catchy chorus and comparatively accessible structure helped it reach a wider pop audience than many of the band’s heavier, more aggressive recordings.

The result can be surprising because songs such as “Highway to Hell,” “Back in Black,” “Thunderstruck,” and “You Shook Me All Night Long” are far more recognizable. However, cultural fame and chart position are not the same thing. “You Shook Me All Night Long” peaked at No. 35, while “Highway to Hell” reached No. 47. “Moneytalks” therefore holds the specific Billboard Hot 100 record, even though it is not always considered AC/DC’s signature song.

The song also became a notable live number during the Razors Edge World Tour, when the band dropped novelty “Angus Bucks” over audiences.
