What international order includes Iroh as a high-ranking member?

Iroh is a high-ranking member of the Order of the White Lotus, an international society devoted to knowledge, wisdom, and balance.

The White Lotus operates across the Four Nations rather than serving one government. Its members include teachers, philosophers, strategists, and martial artists, and they often identify one another through the Pai Sho tile that gives the organization its name. Iroh holds the rank of Grand Lotus.

The organization remains mostly hidden throughout the series. Its members' national identities matter less than their shared ideals, which is why figures such as King Bumi, Master Pakku, Jeong Jeong, and Piandao can work together. In the finale, Iroh calls the White Lotus into open action to liberate Ba Sing Se from Fire Nation control.

A common mix-up is the Red Lotus, a separate anarchist organization introduced in The Legend of Korra. The Dai Li are Ba Sing Se's secret police, while Fire Sages serve the Fire Nation's religious institutions; neither is Iroh's international order.
