What group did Beyoncé help found before her solo career?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé helped found Destiny’s Child before beginning her solo career.

The group developed in Houston during the 1990s from an earlier girl group called Girl’s Tyme. Beyoncé performed with childhood friend LaTavia Roberson, and the lineup changed as the group pursued a record deal. After signing with Columbia Records, the group became Destiny’s Child.

Destiny’s Child rose to international fame with songs including “No, No, No,” “Say My Name,” “Survivor,” and “Bootylicious.” Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams formed the best-known and final lineup.

The group’s success gave Beyoncé experience as a lead vocalist, songwriter, dancer, and recording artist. Destiny’s Child announced a temporary hiatus in 2002 and later reunited for selected appearances, but Beyoncé’s solo career became her primary musical path.
