What game engine is used for Halo: Campaign Evolved?

The story behind the answer

Halo: Campaign Evolved uses Unreal Engine 5 as its game engine. The remake is being developed by Halo Studios as a ground-up reconstruction of the original campaign, combining the classic adventure with modern visuals, updated cinematics, refined controls, and new content.

Unreal Engine 5 is Epic Games’ modern game-development platform, known for features such as Nanite virtualized geometry and Lumen global illumination. Its use allows Halo Studios to rebuild environments, lighting, characters, and effects for current-generation hardware while preserving the structure and feel of the original game.

A common mix-up is Slipspace Engine, the technology associated with Halo Infinite and other later Halo development. Campaign Evolved is a separate project built in Unreal Engine 5. It is also not a Unity or Frostbite title: Unity is widely used across many genres, while Frostbite is strongly associated with Electronic Arts games.
